Executive Summary

Our aim is to assist both buyers and suppliers of software to understand better the large and complex market of local public services now worth over £410m a year. (Source: IT Trends 2008/9).

The Socitm database contains information from 423 public sector organisations and covers 156 different functional areas. The valuable information that has been collected enables you to carry out a number of different analyses:

• Market maturity
• Supplier performance
• Software life
• Pattern of use

For example, the data allows you to identify the market share by supplier and product in any of up to 156 categories and to see how each product is rated on average by its customers according to:

• technical support
• after-sales support
• communication
• functionality
• reliability
• integration

The 2009 package consists of:

• a CD-ROM with an index
  
• three spreadsheets and an electronic copy of the executive summary
  
• 3 spreadsheets in application category sequence listing:
  
• all contributing organisations
  
• companies supplying software linked to a supplier index providing contact details where these have been provided
  
• summary of suppliers supplying products

Note1: The data does not allow users to see how each customer has rated each product, but it does provide an average rating for any product given by its customers.
Note2: Those who have supplied data receive the package free of charge.
