Socitm confirms Adrian Hancock as Managing Director
Published Saturday 18th July 09
Adrian joined Socitm in 2004 as policy officer and programme manager for the Society's Information Age Government Group (now called Socitm Futures). Prior to that, he worked for the IDeA, and was involved in the strategy, design, development, delivery and marketing of the ESD (electronic service delivery) Toolkit and a national e procurement infrastructure, IDeA:marketplace. He was also involved in the development and coordination of regional e government groups and representatives as well as liaison with ODPM and the OeE.
Before the IDeA, Adrian worked at Stockton on Tees Borough Council on e-Government service implementation & project management, Internet & Intranet development, and high level 'back office' integration strategy. His early career was in consultancy, sales & marketing, customer focused service environments, e government strategy and e procurement, and he has particular experience in the use of technology to deliver service improvement and related change management within complex organisations.
Adrian takes the role at time of significant change for the Society, which agreed changes to its governance and management at its AGM in April, and will consider proposals to widen its membership to embrace IT professionals at levels across the public sector at an EGM in October. The Society is also taking steps to increase its already significant collaboration with central government in areas such as IT professionalism, the CIO council, and data handling, and is developing proactive policies in areas like green ICT, social computing and relationships with the supplier community.
Writing in his President's report for July (see http://www.socitm.gov.uk/socitm/News/President+reports.htm), Socitm President Richard Steel commended the appointment to members and said: 'This appointment is very well deserved and [I hope you will] join with me in congratulating Adrian'.
Notes to editors
At its meeting in July the Socitm Board has also appointed former President David Houston as an a second Executive Director on an interim basis. (Under Socitm's constitution the board has two executive directors, one being the managing director, with other board members acting in a non-executive capacity).
