Socitm welcomes PASC report on Government IT
Friday 29th July 2011
Socitm has welcomed yesterday's report by the House of Commons Public Administration Select Committee on IT purchasing and management by central government departments and agencies.
The report is highly critical of current practice, referring to 'over-reliance on large contractors' for IT needs and lack of in-house skills as a 'recipe for rip-offs'.
The PASC report picks up many of the points given in evidence to the Committee by Socitm Policy Director Martin Ferguson and by senior Socitm Members David Wilde and Mark Adams-Wright, when they appeared before the committee in March.
This evidence followed written material submitted by Socitm prior to the hearing and further evidence supplied later at the request of the committee, comparing practice and performance of local government IT implementation with that of central government, points which are taken up in the report. Copies of this evidence can be found on the Socitm website at http://www.socitm.net/downloads/download/384/ and http://www.socitm.net/downloads/download/462/
