A Society of its Time
Thursday 12th January 2012
To mark the first 25 years of Socitm, Bob Griffith, a founder member of the Society, has produced a history of Socitm.
This is a unique document that covers the many events of the last 25 years, from humble beginnings to date, this account outlines Socitm's major milestones and explains how and why the Society developed.
Jos Creese, Immediate Past President of Socitm, had the following to say: -
We have much to thank the founding members of Socitm for, as you will read in the publication. Without their foresight, enthusiasm and tenacity Socitm would not exist. I remember joining without being entirely convinced of the benefits in about 1996, and being encouraged regularly by Martin Greenwood to adopt the MapIT Service (now Insight). I was sceptical, but decided to give it a go and never looked back given the benefits on offer.
Socitm is not just a club of IT professionals sharing knowledge and experience. It offers a range of services second to none in the public sector from benchmarking to research, from events to thought leadership. It has set its standards high, and frequently has been the single lead in the development of innovative IT professionalism in the public sector.
The result of this is clear to all who belong to Socitm and the strong reputation of IT in UK local government in particular owes much to the work of Socitm.
Socitm has become the de facto professional body for IT professionals in local public services.
Copies of this publication can be purchased from Socitm.net and cost £7.50 per copy.
