Socitm 2011 underway with advice from the top
Wednesday 30th November 2011
Coventry City Council chief executive Martin Reeves pulled no punches in setting out his recommended agenda for IT chiefs who want to make a difference, in his opening address at Socitm 2011.
Forget efficiency, transformation is the only way ahead for the forseeable future, he said. But don't think you need a seat on the board to be effective as a Head of IT indicating that this was neither a necessary or a sufficient condition for achieving change.
Martin Reeves demonstrated his credentials as a 'next generation', tech-savvy local authority chief executive, with his references to crowd sourcing and the networked organization, and got a round of applause when he told delegates that he would be taking over the chair at Solace next year.
You can see a video interview with Martin recorded at the conference, and another with Sue Spafford, who spoke after Martin on collaboration and its role in public service reform.
A copy of the conference introduction, delivered by chair Maggie Philbin (of Tomorrow's World fame) will also be available soon from the Socitm 2011 Feedback and Presentations page.
