Socitm National Conference 2009
Introduction
Thursday 23 April 2009
Everyone is talking about the credit crunch but public service ICT
is facing a different sort of crunch. For the last ten years, ICT has
been heralded as the means to deliver significantly better services at
much lower cost. But results so far have been disappointing. Services
may have improved and efficiency may have increased, but nothing like
as much as was hoped or is needed. Most public service organisations
have carried on running their business largely as they have always
done. The current crisis could force organisations to change this
approach - and it could just be crunch time for ICT.
