Partners' Programme - Monday 12th October 2009
A coach from Rabbies Travel and Tours will leave from the front of the EICC at 0930. An experienced local guide will accompany the tour.
Edinburgh has one of the most beautiful cityscapes in the world, while Edinburgh's Royal Mile is a treasure-chest of historic gems. Your guide will unfold the history of this fascinating street and reveal its unique place in the development of the Scottish nation. You will:
- discover how the Royal Mile received its name
- marvel at the splendor of Scotland's original Parliament Hall
- learn why, to this day, Scots spit on a stoney heart!
Hidden beneath the Royal Mile lies Edinburgh's deepest secret - a warren of hidden "closes" where real people lived, worked and died. For centuries they have lain forgotten and abandoned...until now!
You will stop for a visit of Edinburgh's most famous close. You will experience the sights, sounds and maybe even the smells of an amazing street that time forgot.
From here you will have some free time on the Royal Mile to eat in one of the many cafes.
After lunch your tour will travel through the New town to The Royal Yacht Britannia docked in Leith. This magnificent ship has played host to some of the most famous people in the world. But, above all, she was home to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family. Now in Edinburgh you are welcome on board to discover the heart and soul of this most special of royal residences.
From Leith your tour will take you back to your hotel in Edinburgh returning at around 5.30pm.
