Introduction
Socitm Insight has developed a range of spin-off services from Better connected, its annual survey of all UK local authority websites.
The Website assessment service is provided by the Better connected project team. It consists of several elements, each of which can be ordered separately:
- Standard professional review
- Technical accessibility review (with RNIB)
- Readability review (with The Writer)
Prices range from £750 to £2,950 depending on the service provided and the authority type.
The Website take-up service (WTS) has been developed to help local authorities understand more about the numbers and profile of their website visitors, what services they are looking to use, whether the site enables them to do what they set out to do, and how the website's performance compares with those of other, similar councils. The service, which is used by more than a third of all councils, offers a pop-up survey to every fifth visitor to the website, which includes space for free text comments. Participation rates are high and the service is receiving a minimum of 25,000 completed surveys a month.

Getting the most from Google Analytics is a new service introduced in the Spring of 2011. Complementary with the Website take-up service, it helps councils maximise the benefits from the free statistics that Google makes available for website owners about usage of their sites. The service quality assures installation and configuration of Google Analytics so that the results obtained are accurate and meaningful. Results are then benchmarked against those from other participating councils to identify opportunities for improvement.

As complementary services, the Website take-up service and Getting the most from Google Analytics are marketed together (with discounts available for use of both services) under the banner Website performance improvement service, which is itself part of the Customer access improvement service, that also includes the Channel value benchmarking and the Govmetric service.
