Socitm membership explained

Whatever stage you are at on your career, Socitm has a grade that's right for you! We offer two classes of membership - Affiliate and Accredited.

Affiliate membership is for anyone with an interest in information, technology, digital communications, web-development, a related subject of their management. Socitm recognizes the importance of attracting talented people to be tomorrow's leaders of transformational public service delivery. That's why Affiliate is open to anyone who wants to stay in touch and network with others in the industries.

Accredited membership offers post-nominals and is for those who wish to demonstrate their continuing commitment to their chosen career. As well as student (which is free but has no post-nominals) we offer 4 grades, each linked to achievements as demonstrated by the SFIA grades. Accredited membership carries the obligation to develop your career by undertaking regular CPD.

Student

Student membership is available to full-time students of information, technology, management digital communications or a related subject. Student members will enjoy a special package of benefits designed to give a head start towards a satisfying and challenging career. Socitm recognizes the importance of attracting talented young people to be tomorrow's leaders of transformational public service delivery. That's why Student membership is free for the duration of your relevant full time undergraduate degree course.

Associate - ASITM

Associate is for young professionals and graduates in the early stages of a career in information, technology and management or a related activity. As an indicator, Associate ASITM is the accredited designation for professionals with responsibilities at SFIA levels 1 -2. Relevant knowledge, skills, experience and professional commitment will be demonstrated by achievements in the workplace. Recognition will be given to assessments of knowledge, skills and experience in the workplace or evidenced through other relevant professional memberships eg BCS, IISP, IET, APM, ILM.

Member - MSITM

Member is for supervisors, project coordinators and team leaders with three to five years experience in managing an information, technology or related activity. As an indicator, Member MSITM is the accredited designation is for experienced professionals with responsibilities at SFIA level 3 - 4.
Relevant knowledge, skills, experience and professional commitment will be demonstrated by achievements in the workplace. Recognition will be given to assessments of knowledge, skills and experience in the workplace or evidenced through other relevant professional memberships eg BCS, IISP, IET, APM, ILM.

Senior Member - SMITSM

Senior Member is for managers in senior positions with high levels of personal responsibility for decisions that involve substantial resources and their consequences. In large organizations, the position may report to the person with overall responsibility for information, technology or related functions.

In private sector organizations a Senior Member SMSITM may be responsible for significant strategy decisions or programmes that have been of benefit to the public or third sector. As an indicator, Senior Member SMSITM is the accredited designation is for experienced professionals with responsibilities at SFIA level 5-6.

Relevant knowledge, skills, experience and professional commitment will be demonstrated by achievements in the workplace. Recognition will be given to assessments of knowledge, skills and experience in the workplace or evidenced through other relevant professional memberships eg BCS, CIPFA, IISP, IET, APM, ILM.

Fellow - FSITM

Fellow is the most senior accredited designation and is awarded to professionals with overall responsibility for information, technology or a related function who operate or have operated at a minimum of CIO level or equivalent and who make a significant contribution to their organization and the Society.

Admission to Fellow FSITM requires a successful track record of significant achievement in transformational public service delivery and a breadth of strategic management and leadership skills commensurate with SFIA Level 7. Recognition will be given to achievements evidenced through other relevant professional memberships eg BCS, CIPFA, IISP, IET, APM, ILM.
