Doug has more than 25 years experience in the practice and management of information technology, with particular recent emphasis on information strategy development (including partnership and health work), procurement processes, and the effective practical application of IT to meet organisational and business objectives. His approach is practical, based on many years in the development of complex information systems in the public sector. He displays a good combination of a broad strategic overview with an ability to follow through the detail necessary for a successful implementation. His main role in recent years has been in the management and strategic planning of IT, advising clients at senior levels, and in the management of major IT projects, including outsourcing. He has been heavily involved in introducing effective project management methods, notably PRINCE 2, and has developed the application of PRINCE to suit the practical needs of a local authority environment. He is widely travelled in the US and Europe, and has been an expert adviser on computing issues to both the United Nations and Council of Europe.
