David Clayden - Non-Executive Director

David became a non executive director of Socitm on December 2nd, 2008 as a result of the merger with CITRA. He was a director of CITRA since its inception, and is committed to helping the third sector and all other Socitm members understand each other and work better together for the benefit of the public. He is currently the chairmen of the Socitm Third Sector group and has become an Hon FSITM.

David is a former chairman of the Charity Consortium IT Directors Group (CCitDG), the premier membership group of IT Directors in large UK charities. He was Strategic Information Director of The Salvation Army in UK and Ireland until his 'retirement' in September 2009.

David's career prior to his current deep involvement with the third sector has spanned fish stock and traffic management, research and lecturing in medical statistics and being an NHS IT Director and information consultant. The common theme of such a varied experience has been to encourage the availability and the effective use of information to assist not for profit organisations to do what they have to do. Privately, David has always had a strong interest in the natural environment. He enjoys walking for leisure in the Yorkshire countryside, and when on holiday, loves to scuba dive in warm clear water in search of interesting fish.
