About
Socitm is the membership association for all ICT professionals working in Local Authorities and the Public and Third Sectors and suppliers to those sectors. Socitm provides a widely respected forum for the promotion, use and development of ICT best practice. It is also plays a leading role in ICT-facilitated local government transformation in the UK.
Founded in 1986 as the professional association for ICT managers working in and for the public sector, members are drawn primarily from local authorities, the police and fire services, housing authorities and other locally delivered public services. With around 1700 members from 550 different organisations including 98% of all UK local authorities.
In October 2008 membership was extended to include managers or consultants from organisations supplying ICT products and services or other support to those sectors and the change has resulted in increasing numbers from Central Government and the Private Sector.
Socitm aims to
- support the professional development of all people working in public and third sector ICT at all stages of their career
- explicitly benefit employing organisations as well as individual members
- provide equal recognition to members from the private sector and the public sector and enable all members to network for mutual benefit and to promote professionalism in ICT.
