Information Management and Information Security Workshop
Information Management – it’s not IT! Anyone working in the public sector ICT arena cannot fail to be aware of the deluge of headlines publicising yet another information security breach.
Sensitive information exposed to the elements and as a result the vulnerable of our society are put at risk AGAIN.
The problem for public sector organisations is that the publicity, briefing sessions, engagement and dialogue tends to be directed at ICT managers and CIOs. They already understand the considerable benefits and dangers inherent in an environment of electronic storage, a plethora of removable media and a technically savvy workforce well equipped to exploit IT from the comfort of their own home. The difficulty is how to convince our management colleagues, who are generally in control of the information assets and staff, of the importance and relevance of these headlines before they become the reason for the next one.
If this weren't challenging enough we operate in organisations faced with a constant need to make savings whilst increasing customer satisfaction via personalised services and integrated delivery, all of which tend to result in increased information sharing, and therefore increased risks to mitigate.
The next North West Region SOCITM event on 19th July will focus on the challenges faced by Heads of ICT and CIOs in protecting their organisations from both technical and human failings, whilst encouraging the exploitation of information as a key asset. The day will focus on:
- The issue of how to raise the visibility of Information Management and Security
- The challenges faced by Heads of ICT and CIOs
- Where does responsibility for Information Management and Security lie?
- What initiatives are out there and how successful are they?
We'll be looking at several case studies and highlighting areas of proven best practice.
Speakers already confirmed to share their knowledge and experience include:
- Mark Brett, Head of Information Assurance, SOCITM
- Paul Green, CIO and Theresa Brunyee, Information Management Programme Manager, Sheffield City Council
The success of the day will rely on active participation and input from all colleagues, so if you have examples of issues successfully overcome, disasters avoided or you are looking for input to help resolve issues you are currently facing, please make the effort to attend.
Further details of the event and a full agenda for the day will be published shortly on the events area of the SOCITM website.
To book your place, please email Mary.Parsons@sheffield.gov.uk by Wednesday 30 June 2010 advising of any dietary or access requirements.
The event is limited to 40 delegates so book as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.
