IT trends in local public services 2011/12: measuring up to adversity
IT management appears to be wielding greater influence in local public services as local authorities and others turn to technology to help them cope with dramatically reduced budgets.
This is one of the key findings of the latest edition of Socitm's annual survey of IT commissioning and management, published on January 19, 2012.
IT Trends 2011/12 reports growing emphasis on strategic, rather than utility use of IT. Web-delivered services (with web increasingly the channel of choice for the customer) and information governance are other leading preoccupations within IT management's areas of responsibility.
You can read more about the report in our press release.
IT Trends 2011/12 is available as a report only, or in a package with data. The report contains charts and tables summarising the main findings and provides a commentary on the results and trends. The data is supplied in a series of Excel spreadsheets containing the individual responses to all questions (excluding text comments). The report is available for purchase (see details below) but is provided free of charge to those who supplied data (your copy will be sent by email).
Each year the report is sponsored by a number of organisations that share Socitm's objectives of delivering better public services through the exploitation of ICT. This year's sponsors are Capita, Liberata, Riverbed and Siemens. Sponsors help determine the scope of the survey and assist with interpretation of the results.
