Planting the Flag: Leadership
Produced by: Socitm Insight
At Socitm 2011 Socitm launched two complementary reports, providing support for the Planting the flag initiative: The pocket guide on leadership and A.. B… CIO: a personal view of leadership from Jos Creese, Past-President
The pocket guide on leadership is the first of six covering the strategic capabilities
- Organisational change
- Strategic commissioning
- Shared services
The personal view, a companion to the pocket guide, is a personal statement by one of the UK's most influential CIOs in the public sector about what is involved in the leadership role of the CIO. It identifies eight areas to concentrate on and contains valuable advice from a practitioner perspective.
- Focus on business value, not IT cost
- Remember it's not about the technology (mostly)
- Give IT a reputation for business innovation and efficiency
- Don't neglect the 'bread and butter'
- Understand the water reed principle
- Be an advocate for the business, not just for IT
- Build up the necessary experience
- Develop a thick skin
