Lessons from the Open Election Data project
Produced by: Socitm
Type: Briefings
This document has been produced by Socitm and OpenlyLocal and details key lessons learned from the project about the issues involved in publishing open, linked data.
Many of these lessons are applicable to other local government datasets, and indeed other projects undertaken by a wide range of bodies interested in publishing linked open data to the same standard.
We believe the Open Elections Data project was probably the first attempt to have a group of public bodies publish linked data to the same consistent standard, and as such there are important implications for similar future exercises.
There is more information about the project at http://openelectiondata.org/. Socitm has also established a Community of Practice on open data publising - go to www.communities.idea.gov.uk and search on open data.
