The South West regional event, sponsored by Vistorm, was attended by around 30 members.
- Dave Rogers, Vistorm, and Kevin Thiele, Bluecoat, explained how, by introducing a process of continual improvement, effective governance, and appropriate technology, security costs can be reduced by 30% in 12 months.
- Martin Ferguson, Socitm's newly appointed Policy Officer reviewed the key points from the Digital Britain report, will outline Socitm's response to it, and outlined his new role and plans. Martin also covered some the responses to the recent 'Operational Efficiency Programme'.
- Mark Brett from Socitm explained the Local Government Data Handling Guidelines, which seek to provide an essential checklist to their responsibilities and accountability for secure and effective handling of personal information.
- Aligned with Mark's session, Richard Woodfield, Plymouth's Corporate Information Officer, reviewed the 'Practical Implications of Classifying Data'
- Finally David Ripley, a Principal Consultant from Silversands reviewed VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) - the technology and how it can be deployed effectively
