Around 40 members attended the final event of 2009 which was sponsored by IBM. 'Transformation in the Public Sector' was broad theme of the event which included the following sessions:

Mike Brookbanks from our our sponsor IBM gave a keynote session on how ICT in the Public Sector can be transformed with Dynamic Infrastructure
- Doug Maclean, Socitm Consulting's Managing Consultant, gave an interesting overview of what the 'Council of The Future' might look like, reviewing how councils need to change in order to take advantage of the changing economic climate, enabling them to deliver more for less.

Chris Head of Socitm Insight, reviewed the potential and existing use social networking and web 2.0 in local Authorities.
- Paul Hancock, the Project Manager for the South West Grid For Learning (SWGfL) described the plans for developing this network and opportunities that may be available for its use across the South West.
- Martin Gould from Public Services Network outlined current positioning of PSN and future plans
- Falk Bleil of Siemens and Rob Parkhouse (Devon CC) outlined plans for implementing a managed network service for Devon enabling it to meet the County Council's strategic objectives of shared services, flexible working, and providing quicker access to information and systems including improved network resilience and business continuity.
- Steve Palmer, Socitm's President provided an update on the Society's progress during 2009 and plans for the future.
A short AGM followed the main presentations. An email will be sent to SW members outlining the key points from the AGM.
A very successful final event in 2009.
