The Government expects that a significant part of the £35bn of efficiencies required from the public sector in the next few years will come from the back office and the rationalisation of the ICT service.

The Software Index has been superseeded by Socitm's Applications Register, the online service offering a single source of information about hardware, software, IT and consultancy services used by local public service organisations across the UK.

Our Application software index provides a unique resource for organisations interested in comparing the performance of different software products and the companies that supply them. The software market covered by our annual survey is worth in excess of £410 million a year (source IT Trends 2008/09). The Socitm database contains information from 423 public sector organisations and covers 156 different functional areas.

Our aim is to assist both buyers and suppliers of software to understand better the large and complex market of local public services now worth over £410m a year. (Source: IT Trends 2008/9).

The valuable information that has been collected enables you to carry out a number of different analyses:
