Better connected: aiming high
Produced by: Socitm Insight
This report in the Better connected series provides Version 2 of the ' useful, usable and used' framework for local authority websites.
Part A - Six of the best websites
Public expectations of websites are rising all the time. Here we analyse in depth six of the best websites in local government alongside six of the best from other sectors, public or private. We draw out the lessons that need to be learned from this sample of very good websites so that others can aspire to, match and exceed those standards.
Part B - Beyond the transactional website
The ranking system used by the Better connected surveys since their inception in 1999 has stood the test of time in an area where there has been very rapid change. With the 2005 deadline of 100% availability of government transactions now in the past, this is the time to position the survey for the new challenges of transformation and efficiency.
We explain the changes to the ranking system and to the 'useful, usable and used' criteria, which have been fully reviewed and brought up to date.
- Version 2 of the 'useful, usable and used' framework is set out in this document and will be implemented with effect from January 2006
- We plan to introduce a new ranking of n excellent website - effective, efficient and engaging (E site)'. This will be positioned higher than the current transactional status. We will phase out the current ranking system (P, C, C+ and T) with effect from January 2007.
- We have also listed our explanations of what makes for a compelling user experience.
